Task 1: Just follow these simple steps to make your own set of Tangram:
Step 1: Take a rectangular sheet of paper and take out the largest possible square from it. For this, fold the sheet and cut the extra rectangular flap as shown in the below diagram.
Step 2: Cut the square into two triangles
Step 3: Take one of the triangles and fold it into halves. Cut the triangle along the fold into two smaller triangles.
Step 4: Take the other triangle and crease it in the middle. Fold the corner of the triangle opposite the crease and cut.
Step 5: Fold the trapezium into half and then fold again. Cut along both the folds.
Step 6: Fold the remaining smaller trapezium and cut it into two.
Task 2:
After getting the seven pieces of the Tangram, make the square you had started with. How did you get the square?
Discuss:
Task 3:
Now, make a triangle, a rectangle and a parallelogram using these seven pieces.
Use all the 7 pieces
No piece can overlap the other
(Hint: Shift only the two largest triangle pieces.)
Task 4:
Take out the biggest and the smallest triangles from your set of Tangram pieces. How much bigger is the large triangle in comparison to the smaller one?
In the same way, what is the relationship between the sizes of the square, the parallelogram and the medium sized triangle with respect to the smallest triangle?
Discuss:
Task 5:
Try making the following design using the Tangram pieces:
